We love to travel, and photography is our passion

LET US SHOW YOU HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS PLANET IS

It all started in 2003 with a 5 week trip to South Africa and our first digital SLR. Our lives truly changed in 2013 when we did a trip called the Premium Predator Safari in South Africa and Botswana, with a pro called Greg du Toit. Read the story here. His tuition was the little “push in the right direction” we had needed. Three months later he won the BBC World Wildlife Awards, and we started bluemelphoto.

We’ve done many trips since, to increasingly exotic and remote destinations. We are always attempting to improve our skills and find new “crazy” destinations, in doing so hoping to show you the beauty of this world.

The travel photographer

I was born and raised in Holland, spent my teens in Kenya (that’s where my love for Africa comes from), I moved to Switzerland after finishing my physiotherapy studies, and have lived there since.

I don’t like the ordinary. I don’t like going where the crowds go, doing what everyone else does. I love exotic places, big barren landscapes and lots of space. I don’t like the cold, but have fallen in love with the snowy and icy destinations like Antarctica, Spitsbergen, Iceland. Greenland is high on my bucket list. My aim is to let you see that there is beauty all around us. This planet is so beautiful, we really should take better care of it. Travel with me through the images, and read the stories behind them, and get the 2nd choice pictures, in my blog. Come see the world.

JÜRG

the landscape and astro photographer

Jürg was born  in Switzerland, grew up in Great Britain, moved back to  Switzerland at age 5, where we still live today, in a small town on the Zürich Lake, conveniently rather close to the airport. Jürg is one of those people who is “left and right-brained”, he is very creative but also technically very skilled. No wonder being a telecommunications engineer. No complaining, it comes in  rather handy often enough.

Juerg loves to just “do his thing”. He spends ages looking up at the stars in the middle of the night, when all others give up and go to sleep, he is at his best. Plus he has the patience to wait for that one ray of light on a landscape composition, and climbs up every hill there is to get a different angle. He is the brain behind our team, the technical genius and creator of our homepage.
