2015MY PERSONAL TOP 10 for 2014
Okay, I admit, I couldn’t decide… so it’s 12.
I mean, there were thousands, I got it down to 25 rather well but then it got really hard. They may not all be photographic highlights, but what they all have in common: they are “feel good” pictures to me. The places I took them, the trouble I went through to take them, the special light or occasion… hope you like them too.

This one changed my life. It was a cold winter afternoon at a little lake near where we live, I believe I was the only person for miles around, and it was so quiet, peaceful and beautiful ! If I could I would have jumped a double salto for joy, instead I jumped around in the snow, rolled in the snow and kicked my legs in the air like a turtle on its back, and shouted yes, yes, yes ! Right there I decided I wanted to be a photographer, wanted to share all these beautiful places, with whoever wants to see, through my photos and in writing.

I fell in love with this little fellow. Grown hyenas are ugly but the cubs are so adorable. We visited the den site I had been at twice before, I was already prepared for another “no show”, but this time we were lucky. Three cubs of which this one was my absolute favourite.

Juerg bought a new lens, which happened to have a makro button on it. I spent the whole afternoon chasing bees. Amazing how pretty these little animals are when you take a closer look.

Before our sailing trip in Antigua we stayed at this very cool hotel. The ocean was as blue as seldom before, the beach soft and white and the weather was perfect. It also happened to be my birthday.

In Botswana, on our Photo Workshop in Mashatu, I desperately wanted to do a very cool elephant shot at the hide, or at least an impala drinking, reflecting in the water. There was nothing to be seen, plain nothing, till after a long time the guinea fowls showed up. Andre warned us, they were about to start a fight, we got ready … and I got three cool shots, this one is the best. I like it even more because it proves there’s always something good to be seen, and that if you make the most out of a situation you sometimes surprise yourself and get amazing images.

I have hundreds of photo’s of cheetah cubs, maybe thousands. Running, jumping, climbing, suckling, sleeping, eating, playing you name it. Why this one ? I love this one because he’s small and lonely up in the tree, almost scared, not knowing how he got up there, or will get down, almost looks like he’s looking for help. Everyone else already has the cute cuddly ones.

Leopard in a tree, a classic. Love the look in its eyes, the details of the face, and the very green background

Leopard under a tree, deciding where to go up. Just a quick glance, a moment in time, a moment we shared. Only in black and white did I notice the extremely long white symmetrical whiskers.

Looking down over Athens, a 4 million people city. Discovering the alleys of the old town, totally unexpected we stumbled across this graffiti wall, whilst walking up to the very ancient historical Acropolis. I love the contrast between the modern sprayings and the old town at our feet.

Having our sundowners sitting on the beach, not on the sailing boat as we usually do, we enjoyed watching the silhouette of our yacht in the setting sun. This lonely yacht sailed by on the horizon, probably on its way to English Harbour, one hell of a sundowner mood.

The pure joy of life ! Imagine being a kid, living on Nevis, a tiny island in the Caribbean and being able to do a perfect jump from the jetty on an average Monday afternoon. How great life is.

I admit I had sort of a leopard year, and because I had, and it was so full of cool leopard photo’s, I just had to put this one on number one. Because of the fixed gaze, the details and the colours. That’s me, that’s my favourite photo, proving my love for colour, contrast and close-ups.
Will do my best again in 2015, promise !
